The name Miapera derives from Italian word “Mia” meaning “my” and “Pera”. Behind its Italian origin lies the story of Pera transforming into Beyoğlu... During Suleyman the Magnificient's reign, Luigi, the son of the famous Venetian Embassy Andrea Gritti resided in a mansion near Taksim. Due to his father's position his reputation as the “son of the sir” was widespread and his interest in Pera area was very obscure that the area was named after him.

Beyoğlu as the contemporary culture, art and entertainment centrum of İstanbul recently, has once known as “Pera” meaning “the opposite shore” on the contrary to the Ancient city.
